Photos:
Photos are taken at the opening night of The Joey Ramone
Birthday Bash Art Extravaganza, it was at CBGB's Gallery between May 14
- June 3:
Upper, left: Anthony Zito's painting of Joey.
Upper, right: Joey's mother Charlotte Lesher and Ramones fans Laura
Brown and David Kelly in front of many paintings. Behind Charlotte and
Laura in the
background you can see a Joey drawing done in 1972 by Charlotte. There
is more about it in Ramones:
Soundtrack Of Our Lives.
Lower, left: NY loves Joey more than
ever! sign. I got to see this first
time at the Joey Ramone Birthday Bash in 2003. Then I found that all of
the performers attending the event that night (2003) had signed a
personal greeting for Joey.
Lower, right: Jari-Pekka Laitio-Ramone and Charlotte Lesher. Behind is
one of drawings Joey drew when he was a children.
Story of this my trip begin here.... I (Jari-Pekka Laitio-Ramone)
wrote this in 2005.
It was a long long trip from Finland to New York. Just before I started
my trip from my hometown Kauhajoki to Helsinki (capital of Finland) on
May 13, 2005 I did phone interview with Antti Niemi, goalkeeper of
Finnish national soccer team, he's also a Ramones fan and in my second
book Rock In Peace:
Dee Dee And Joey Ramone.
Then I had first a flight to the Amsterdam. There I was planned to meet
my friend Bram van Schaik. But Bram went that day to the Berlin
to see
Gabba Gabba Hey! musical. So it was a long waiting
before flight to New York.
In New York my friend David Kelly came
to pick me from JFK airplane station, I had with me heavy bags because
of big amount of
my books.
It was nice to relax a bit and we drank few bottles of Jamaican
beer Red Stape and some Jack Daniels whisky shots, then we we headed to
the opening night of The Joey
Ramone Birthday Bash Art Extravaganza, it was at CBGB's Gallery between
May 14 - June 3. There was around 30 paintings/ art piece, mostly all of
them were about Joey. Prices were mostly between 250US$ - 600US$, but
eight paintings were 1000 US$ or more, like Shepard Fairey's Obey Joey
Ramone was 2500 US$ and Anthony's Zito's Joey 1200 US$.
Anthony's work was one of my fave (see photo), like as well I Remember
You by Toilet Boys Guitarist Sean Pierce. On Pierce's drawing Pinhead
is sitting in a metro in a sad mood with Gabba Gabba Hey
sign.
