MARKY RAMONE: START OF THE CENTURY -
PUNKOLOGY 1 (2CD
COLLECTION)
BACK TO
MARKY
Marky wrote of the release following:
When the Ramones decided to call it a day, I had all these songs written.
They have a Ramones feel, but they also have other musical styles. The
songs became the two Intruders CDs, recorded in the late '90s. The first
time around, these CDs they came and went basically unnoticed due to poor
distribution, but I listened to them recently and decided to release them
again.
There are 27 songs here. They're loud, short and to the point about
subjects like guns, suicide, the love of beer and God. Two cover songs are
on this anthology, "Better Things," written by Ray Davies of the Kinks and
"Nowhere Man" by the Beatles.
I produced the first CD with the lead singer at the time, Skinny Bones.
The second disc was produced by Lars Frederiksen, who was with Rancid at
the time. Joan Jett appears on Track 7, "Don't Blame Me," a song I wrote,
and produced in mono. Very Phil Spector sounding.
Along with this package comes a live CD recorded in February 2005 in
Mexico
at three different shows by three different mobile units owned by radio
stations. These shows were wild and fun, and you could say this is my
tribute to my ex-band mates, Johnny, Joey and Dee Dee Ramone, who are gone
but all over the world not forgotten.
I want to thank the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day, The Offspring,
Rancid, Kiss, U2, Pearl Jam, Lisa Marie Presley, The Pretenders, etc., for
their time and effort recording Ramones' songs, and all the other bands
that, one way or another, have paid tribute to the Ramones.
And, of course, thanks to Ramones fans everywhere. Enjoy.
