INTERVIEW WITH BAD
RELIGION OF THEIR RAMONES MEMORIES (1997)
Copyright© since 1997 -> for everything in this page b: Jari-Pekka
Laitio-Ramone and Anssi Autio.
I got a chance to do "RAMONES" interview with BAD
RELIGION's CREG HETSON in my hometown festival Nummirock in 1997, where
Ramones played
in 1992 and 1994.
Also my friend Anssi Autio asked some of my questions from BAD RELIGION's singer
Greg Graffin.
Like many Ramones fans knows, Bad Religion has made a tribute song to
the Ramones.
They recorded We're A Happy Family
song to GABBA GABBA HEY - RAMONES TRIBUTE
ALBUM.
Jari-Pekka: Can you tell me the things you
remember of doing that We're A Happy Family cover?
Greg Hetson: It's tribute one of our Ramones songs.
Triple X asked me to do a composition, that's why we recorded
it.
Jari-Pekka: What does Ramones mean to Bad Religion.
Greg Hetson: Ramones was one of the first punk rock
bands in the world, so very big influence, one of our favourite bands of
our time.
Jari-Pekka: Did Ramones has any influence to Bad Religion
sound?
Greg Hetson: Did the Ramones have any influence. Oh
yeah. Yes bands like Black Flag and etc. are out of
lessons.
Jari-Pekka: The best things about Ramones? Personal
favorites?
Greg Hetson: I think that at the time they started
they made two or two and a half minutes long songs. There weren't long
guitar solos and it wasn't heavy metal and no explotions. It was pure
rock'N'roll like original style like the 50's.
Jari-Pekka: Do you think that Johnny Ramone was the most
influenced punk guitarist?
Greg Hetson: Yes, the best punk guitar players. Yes,
number one for me the guitar style.
Jari-Pekka: What you liked to come to Finland
Greg Hetson: It's always fun, it's good to watch the
drunk people.
Jari-Pekka: Yes, people in Finland drink lot of alcohol...,
it's just so great, drugs like LSD are shit. Alcohol is just
great drink and then gigs are also better to watch.
Jari-Pekka: Nummirock is the biggest heavy metal / punk festival
in Finland..
Greg Hetson: Here is great to be. That's good
festival.
FOLLOWING QUESTIONS ARE ASKED BY MY FRIEND ANSSI
AUTIO WHO IS ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUS RADIO PERSON IN FINLAND.
Question: How did you choosed We're A Happy Family.
Greg Graffin: Because I think it's a one of the best
songs. One we did it. This one was my favourite Ramones song. Just
because it's so sarcastic. They aren't happy family. Everyone in America
is supposed to believe they have a happy family.
Question: What was the influence of Ramones to punk?
Greg Graffin: They were the first fast song band.
They were an
institution. They was a timeless band and that's what Bad Religion like
modelled after. They continued so long to do great music. Unfortunately
they ran out of steam in the end of their career, but I think we can
continue.
Question: There's a finnish band called Paha Uskonto which s
coverband. Bad Religion mean Paha Uskonto.
Greg Graffin: Oh I'd love to hear
it.
THANKS TO ANSSI AUTIO OF MAKING THESE LAST QUESTIONS
