I went to the Ramainz CD release show at the
Continental in NYC. The club
was really packed with tons of fans, it was really crowded and so fucking
hot in there. But it was great! It was great to meet people from Ramones-
newsgroup like Babi, Jeff, Cablashi, and Frank. You were all really nice,
it was cool to be able to meet you all in person! It was great.
I was selling Ramainz CDs and T-Shirts, with a friend of mine, and a lot
of people came up and brought the stuff. The T-shirts were black shirts
that say "The Ramainz" with a on the front, and "Rock n Roll Vacation" on
the back, with a cartoon drawing of some crazy guys face. We were giving
away free Ramainz posters. There were tons of people there. The opening
band, the Toilet Boys were really good. They got a good response from the
crowd. Then the Ramainz came on a little after 12:00, they were introduced
by MTVs Jesse Camp. The Ramainz line up was Dee Dee Ramone on guitar &
vocals, Marky Ramone on drums, and Barbara Zampini (Dee Dee's wife) on
bass & vocals. They sounded really great! They were tight, fast fun and
everything. They really do keep getting better and better each time I see
them. Each band member was great. Marky was great as always on drums,
never missing a beat, fast and fun and all. Dee Dee was great on guitar,
and he sang great too. Barbara keeps getting better and better as singer,
and shes awesome on bass.
Their setlist was pretty similar to the live CD, with a few differences.
They played all the great Ramones classics Beat On The Brat, Chinese
Rocks, Sheena Is A Punk Rocker, Blitzkrieg Bop, Teenage Lobotomy, I Wanna
Be Sedated and lots more. They also played Rock N Roll Vacation In LA and
Hop Around. Great set! The crowd was really into it the whole time,
singing along and stuff. A lot of the fans there must have already got and
liked the Ramainz CD, because when the band played Hop Around, a lot of
people were singing along, and, well, hoping around! the crowd was really
in to it the whole time, it was lots of fun. Aside from the heat in that
club, I really had a great time, it was lots of fun, and the band was
great.
I definitly recommend you see the Ramainz next time they play!
(Thanks of the review JC)
NYC was boiling in the middle of a heat wave. The damn
city was out of
short sleeve shirts, there was not enough water to drink, and the air was
almost too humid to breathe. This is the scene of the Ramainz last show at
the Continental, on St Marks in the East Village. The 10 hour drive from
Canada was well worth it.
Seeing Dee Dee on stage is something I've wanted to do as long as I've
been a Ramones fan. Unfortunately, though I have seen the Ramones many
times, it was always with CJ, and though CJ was great, I really wanted to
see my songwriting hero, Dee Dee.
There was a huge lineup outside the club, which was much smaller (and
hotter!!) inside than I'd imagined. Opening band was 'Down by Law'-great!~
Next up was 'Honkey Toast'-Great! ~Next up was 'Toilet boys'-cool stage
show, average band-then, finally the Ramainz.
Dee Dee looked great, healthy, strong, and enthusiastic. Barbara was great
on bass, her singing awesome, and a real heartbreaker in the looks
department - I wonder how! long it'll be before she becomes a rock star on
her own?
Marky was fine, funny, and great as usual. I was impressed at how
tight the band was, and especially at Dee Dees guitar playing! Who'da
thunk it? The format was basically this- Dee Dee walks over to the set
list taped to the wall, struggles to read it in the dim light, then walks
back to the mic to bark out, for example, "HOP AROUND 1234!" Barbara
appeared to enjoy herself, and was all smiles. Dee Dees rendition of
'Chinese Rocks' was particularly cool. I scored a Ramainz CD (BUY IT!) and
a Ramainz t-shirt, which will hang with pride in my ramoneswear
collection. Well worth the trip to NYC! The pics aint great,
but I hope you like em!
