RAMONES EXHIBITION: RAMPE3, IN AUGSBURG, GERMANY:
MARCH 21 - APRIL 5, 2003

BACK

There was really cool and special Ramones exhibition RAMPE3 in Augsburg, Germany: March 21 - April 5, 2003. Exhibition was dedicated for Dee Dee and Joey.

I added 4 cool pics from exhibition. Click here, to see them..

I've informed of that in my site long time ago, when they were searching live bands and oldstyle punkrockers for the frame program etc. Exhibition will be documented primarily the subject of the Ramones, furthermore the effects of the Ramones on the punk rock in Europe and specifically on the area of Augsburg-Munich.

After these lines comes the official English text that is mainly co-ordinated by Heiko Gerdes and Sebastian of the official City of Augsburg "Stadtjugend Ring" organisation. This organisation mainly support and organize the whole thing.

Every day a mix of documentation, concerts, art, readings, films and clubbing. Every day from dusk til..? - inclusive three weekends!
This event focuses on the Augsburg's punk scene and also pays a huge tribute to the Ramones, showing in context how they've kick-started the whole punk thing.
Back in summer of '78 some young german punks from Augsburg drove cross the whole country to Hamburg in a fucked-up car "just" to see Da Bruddas first ever gig on german turf... They catched up the Fast Four on the airport and where asked to help them with the equipment. The story so far.
What started with a simple roadie job, lastet to 25 years of friendship. They also followed the Ramones later tours, got alot of infos too as they where invated backstage many times when the Ramones came over here.

The Augsburg crew stayed in regular contact with Dee Dee Ramone. Two of them, Lothar Felkel and General Seckler, where especially friends with Dee Dee. Thus in early 2002, hanging out with Dee Dee, they had the idea of an exhibition off DeeDee's paintings in Augsburg which he wanted to attend. Dee Dee also was supposted to open it with a acoustic concert. After his death, both kept working on this idea to make sure it will happens.

They got help, money and know-how by the "Regio Augsburg Tourismus GmbH" and the "Stadtjugendring Augsburg", who are the official presentators of this event. Without their professional help and the great job Sebastian Kochs does there, this couldn't be realized. What originally started just as the plan of making a small art exhibition, did now grow to a full-size event.
Both guys did recently a trip to New York, to discuss their project and asking people for support who where close with the Ramones and/or worked for them. Bringing back home a bunch of interesting stuff, unique items, photos, art and more that now will be shown to the public, most of it for the first time ever.

Inclusive Ramones photos from their official photographers, like George Dubose, Roberta Bayley, Stephanie Cherniekowsky, Bob Gruen and David Godlin.
Paintings of Dee Dee Ramone, Paul Kostabi and Joe Raimond, just to name a few here.

In Rampe3 there will be also the possibility of leaving a personal gift at the shrine of JOEY AND DEE DEE. Some facts just to show you how big it will be: 400m² (square meter) art exhibition, 380m² documentation area, 700m² Rock 'n' Roll Hall, 30m² movie theatre, 350m² Punk Rock Club, plus merchandise area.

They also invated Arturo Vega, The Ramones creative director since 1974, and administrator of officialramones.com the official Ramones website will be present from the 27th of March till the last day. Arturo will bring rare and precious items from his personal collection of Ramones memorabilia and photographs never seen before. He will also narrate a slide show telling part of the story from the 2261 Ramones shows he was lucky enough to work in. He will be there and bring all the official Ramones merchandise with him that's normaly only available in the states.
Marky Ramone & The SpeedKings was planned to be also special guest, BUT THEIR SHOW IS CANCELLED!!!

But that's by far not all! More than 25 bands to make sure that every day will be a special: live music, readings, movies and more.
Rampe3 is open daily at 6:00pm, on weekends until 3:00 am admission will be Euro 3. - (incl. concerts), except March 24th (Juergen Teipel, Euro 5.-).

They've setup a website, it's written in German but easy to navigate and understand. Just click on the Rampe3 logo to check it out. - Go to Programm to see all the acts or look program lower on that page. Kunst means art, and on the button Anfahrt you'll have a map that guide you direct to the location.

For all visitors from abroad: Augsburg is in south Germany, famous Bavaria. It's near Munich, aprox 60 kilometers, and the public-transportation from Munich to the venue is very good. I think a train goes every 20 minutes.
Download a city-map of Augsburg here. (Adobe Acrobat Reader needed).

So if you don't speak german and you wanna go to Augsburg, you need to know:
- How to go there by public-transport?
- Where to find a Hotel?
- Is there a camp-site?, etc. etc.
Just visit the website of Augsburgs tourist info or call them (0049 - 821 - 50 20-721).

You also can contact Sebastian by E-mail (projekt@sjr-a.de): But please keep in mind, this guy is busy with the last stuff to organize. So just serious requests please. Don't ask him what a pint of beer will cost...
