Dee Dee Ramone: A Memorial Exhibition was on display in a show at Subliminal Projects gallery in Echo Park, Los Angeles, USA. Dee Dee received this a posthumous gallery exhibition of his artwork thanks to street artist Shepard Fairey. The exhibition was organized with Dee Dee's estate, which lended the art. Exhibition was from October 26 through November 17, 2012.

Dee Dee's wife Barbara Ramone (Zampini) said she hadn't seen these paintings for like 10 years. You can see Barbara in right when she was interviewed by Eric Blain in a opening night of exhibition. Paintings were before in Germany. Barbara said one of her favourite being painting where a guy is eating soup (topmost in right).
Barbara had to refer to Rampe3 event. There was organised really great Ramones event/ exhibition/ festival called Rampe3 by Gerhard "General" Seckler and Lothar Felkel in Augsburg, Germany in March 21 - April 5, 2003. There was later also Rampe4 in 2006, dedicated for Dee Dee Ramone, Joey Ramone and Johnny Ramone.
Arturo Vega, George DuBose, I (Jari-Pekka Laitio-Ramone) etc. attended Rampe3 as a special guests. Photos you see of Dee Dee's paintings in this page now, were taken by me in Rampe3. These were exhibited now in Dee Dee Ramone: A Memorial Exhibition at Subliminal Projects.

Back to Los Angeles...
Ramones' manager John Cafiero said these paingtings were exhibited first time in America. As I wrote, exhibition was from October 26 through November 17, 2012.
Erica Overskei, gallery manager at Subliminal Projects, said the show is comprised of 19 canvases, five paintings on wood, and one mixed media on card stock. Some of the works were made in collaboration between Ramone and artist-musician Paul Kostabi, and with Barbara. Most of the art was created by just Dee Dee. None of the canvases will be available for sale.
Gallery was originally created by Shepard Fairey and Blaze Blouin as an artist collective in 1995.

See in a right photo of Shepard Fairey and Brent Alden in a opening night.
About Shepard Fairey, his work became more widely known in the 2008 U.S. presidential election, specifically his Barack Obama "Hope" poster (red white and blue poster).

You can read most extensive background story of Dee Dee's art career from my second book Rock In Peace: Dee Dee And Joey Ramone, like extensively how Dee Dee perfected and improved his artistic style over the years. I bet you will be speechless after reading the interview, it is so important part of history. Buy book from Interpunk.
Interview is 8,5 pages long and has lot photos of Dee Dee's paintings, so many he especially collaborated with Paul Kostabi and also some with Barbara. Painting in my personal collection is by them three and I am so happy to has also photo where Dee Dee is creating it.

I visited Paul Kostabi and Heidi Follin three times during May 2003. The first time was with Randy Wisebrod, second time was with Diane Hatcher and third time I was alone. So Dee Dee was then still alive.
Heidi Follin was Dee Dee's art manager. Heidi also represented Paul's famous brother Mark Kostabi as well as many others. For example, the cover painting of the Ramones album Adios Amigos, was done by Mark Kostabi.
Paul met Dee Dee at Arturo Vega's loft in 1989, shortly after he quit the Ramones. Dee Dee and Paul started to paint together in around 1999. Dee Dee and Paul's Youth Gone Mad did a lot of work together in his last years. He played on quite a few recordings. Dee Dee's paintings were used as covers for the some Youth Gone Mad releases.

So in one photo you can see Shepard Fairey and BrentAlden in a opening night. Brent Alden is the bass player of L.A. punk band False Alarm. Dee Dee Ramone and Paul Kostabi painted cover of False Alarm's second album Fuck 'Em We'Ve All Ready (Now) Won! It got published in 2006 and re-issued in 2009 together with Youth Gone Mad album recorded in 2002, songs include Dee Dee Ramone. These are final recordings Dee Dee ever did. As Paul Kostabi said to me in Rock In Peace: Dee Dee And Joey Ramone book interview, Dee Dee didn't get to hear the finished product what was released six months after Dee Dee became an angel...
