I arrived at Continental at 8:00PM, I saw Evil and Willy B from The
Independents. I hadn't seen them in quite some time, so we caught up on
what was going on with them. They told me, that they were the first band
to go on. They also told me, that they were going to be recording a live
cd at their New Years show, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
At 9:30 The Independents hit the stage. They performed 3 Ramones songs,
one of which was Blitzkrieg Bop. Even though it was short set, they were
of energy! Later on that evening, they came for encore of the same songs.
Other bands that evening included The Kowalskis, Charm School and The
Bullys. They all did different Ramones songs and were really good. Bullys
played Psycho Therapy, 53rd And 3rd and Beat On The Brat. Kowalskis rocked
We Want The Airwaves, The KKK Took My Baby Away and the Joey's Song, that
Kitty Kowalski has wrote. Joey's Song was a very good song.
At midnight Marky Ramone hit the stage, with Jerry Only and Dez Cadena
as the Misfits. They performed a couple of Misfit's songs, which included
Attitude and Last Caress. They also did several Ramones songs, which were
I Wanna Be Sedated, Strength To Endure and Havana Affair. After they left
the stage, Richie Stotts (formerly of The Plasmatics and King Flux) and
Andy Shernoff of the Dictators came on. They had the place really rocking.
Then came Joey's brother Mickey Leigh to do an acoustic version of
Searching For Something from Joey's solo album Don't Worry About Me. Al
Maddy who co-write the song with Joey, appeared on stage to sing it with
Mickey. Searching For Something was so quiet, you could hear a pin drop.
It was a very moving scene, I almost cried. It reminded us of just how
much we miss Joey.
Mickey stayed on stage with Daniel Rey to do several more songs from
Joey's album. They were What A Wonderful World, Stop Thinking About It and
I Got A Spirit In My House. They also did Merry Christmas (I Don't Want To
Fight Tonight) and I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend and several other Ramones
songs.
It was a great night, enjoyed by all! I'm looking forward to next
tributes!
